Uplift – ASP.NET 5: The MS Move to Open Source Software

Join us as mLevel’s Senior Developer, Brett Davis, presents on ASP.NET at the Uplift Conference which focuses on elevating diversity in technology.

When: Friday, March 11th from 3pm to 3:45pm

Where: One South Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606 (Mezzanine Level)

What: With the release of RC1 of ASP.NET 5, Microsoft has officially thrown its full support behind the open-source software community. Support for Node.js, Gulp and Grunt, npm, bower and json based configuration is now included out of the box with .NET 5 web projects.

Additionally, the new .NET Core CLR has been made completely open source and allows .NET web applications to be run on nearly any operating system. This fundamental shift in development ideology will require many .NET developers to play a little bit of catch-up with what the rest of open-source web world has been up to for the past couple years.

Brett’s talk will cover the basics of the new project structure, new package management systems in play, and the new features available in ASP.NET 5. He’ll go through the steps to start a new project and leverage these new tools to build a highly scalable web app.
