With the release of RC1 of ASP.NET Core (previous ASP.NET 5), Microsoft has thrown its full support behind the open-source software approach. New integrations for Node.js, Gulp and Grunt, npm, bower and json based configuration are now included out of the box with new .NET web projects.
Additionally, the new .NET Core CLR has been made completely open source and allows .NET web applications to be run on nearly any operating system. This fundamental shift in development ideology will require many .NET developers to play a little bit of catch-up with what the rest of modern web world has been up to for the past couple years.
Brett Davis, a senior developer with mLevel, will discuss the basics of the new project structure, new package management systems in play, and the new features available in ASP.NET Core. We’ll go through the steps to start a new project and leverage these new tools to build a highly scalable web app.
