3 Ways Mobility Elevates Your Training Programs: Connectivity

Let’s talk about connectivity and why it’s important. The modern day learner hops from device to device, expecting the training they accessed on their company desktop to be waiting for them on their phones whether it’s after lunch, or on their way to a meeting. With trends like IoT, mobile apps, and comfortable computing on the rise, business professionals are connected around the clock. Consider the scarily revealing fact: Ninety one percent of young professionals even admitted to regularly using their cell phones in the bathroom.

Mobility presents itself as a great opportunity for us in L&D to meet learners where they are. If you’ve had the opportunity to read our whitepaper on The Modern Corporate Learner, you know that enabling a culture of continuous learning is one of the ways you can take your learning to the next level. This goes beyond requiring employees continually learn, and includes aligning your resources and culture to actively encourage learning.

The tough reality is how we achieve these elevated levels of connectivity. While learners freely device hop, learning professionals are battling battery life and legacy LMS system’s incompatibility with their HTML5 eLearning. The modern learner may take the phrase “compatible with all devices” for granted, but the heroes of L&D know that an outdated IE9 browser is a closer picture of reality. Our mission here at mLevel is to change that. So we thought we would share with you the tools that help us achieve maximum connectivity.

Let me start by introducing you to our friends: Unity, Microsoft Azure, and xAPI. They provide a seamless, on-demand, and mobile experience for learners, while giving you the luxury of building a course one time for multiple devices, without all the extra heavy lifting (Spoiler alert: no coding experience required!). Azure provides the tools we need to make your learning both global and secure with their world class data center infrastructure; making the training you built available to the sales rep down the hall, the operations leader traveling abroad on business to India, and anywhere else imaginable. All with an excellent security model to ensure you have training material confidentiality. Next, we have Unity which plays a huge role in enabling learning to span across multiple browsers and platforms without the need of complicated installers. Providing high class quality for your games, videos, and learning activities whether you’re team Apple, team Android, or using your desktop. Last but certainly not least, we have xAPI, the modern successor to SCORM, which allows us to easily send data from our system to any supporting LMS.

Now that we’ve introduced you to the technology that allows us to make elevated levels of accessibility possible, what’s next? Your learners are connected, but not engaged. Stay tuned tomorrow for Part II of our series on mobile learning: How to inspire greater engagement levels to add depth to learning content.
